His work has been shaped by many years of studying nature, traditional medicine, herbalism and different approaches to understanding the relationship between people and the natural world.
Das spent almost ten years as an apprentice to Peter von Maltitz, known as Zanemvula, a traditional healer, herbalist and teacher. During this time he studied African traditional medicine and medicinal plants alongside healing, diagnosis, homeopathy, psychology, sociology, shamanism, Steiner's view of the world and even Goetheanism.
This work also led to 50 South African Medicinal Plants, his first published book, created from his own research and experience through apprenticeship, further developed with Peter's involvement and detailed editing.
Lyon's wider work today brings together nature, traditional knowledge, psychology, mythology, embodied experience and human development through his mentoring practice at Sacred Grove.
50 South African Medicinal Plants is the first book in a larger body of writing exploring our relationship with Nature, knowledge and the deeper dimensions of being human.
